The House

The Skylark House is a four-bedroom mountain house on ten acres, with enough space — inside and out — that a group of nine never feels crowded. Two gas fireplaces anchor the living room and the dining room, and the fully equipped chef's kitchen handles everything from pancakes for nine to a proper dinner party. A separate sitting room with TV gives the group a second place to land.

The Grounds

Ten acres of lawn, woods, and sky. The yard is the heart of the property: a backyard deck, outdoor dining, a fire pit ringed with chairs, lounge areas, and a front porch for coffee in the morning and drinks at dusk. Kids have room to run; adults have room to do nothing at all.

Next Door: Deer Mountain Inn

A private walking path connects The Skylark House to Deer Mountain Inn, a turn-of-the-century retreat on 168 acres of mountain meadows and woodland. The Inn's restaurant — a three-time Wine Spectator award winner led by James Beard semifinalist Chef Corwin Kave — is a destination in its own right. Have a drink at the bar, stay for dinner, wander the trails, and walk home through the trees. No car keys required.
